The one that everybody knows is the Bhut Jolokia at 1,041,427 SHU (Scovile Heat Units), then word spread about the original Infinity Chilli test results at 1,067,286 SHU, which the ChilliPepperPete Naga closely piped with 1,086,844 SHU.
Now the Infinity is back with new results for the 2010 crop, it has a whopping 1,176,182 SHU, that is almost 100,000 hotter that anything else tested before.
A 100,000 SHU increase to 1,176,182 is a massive jump when you think that Mad Dog Inferno Hot Sauce comes in at only 90,000 SHU and that hot sauce is about 18 – 20 times hotter than the jalapeño which is what most normal people think is a hot chilli.
We don’t expect the heat race to finish here, there seem to be a lot of very hot peppers around the world that have not yet been fully tested, but we think Fire Foods has a winner on it’s hands with the Infinity Chilli if it can get quantities to market in the next few years.
